Conduct In The Library

A policy has been adopted so that the library may provide an atmosphere conducive to appropriate use of the library services and facilities.  The public is required to comply with these Rules & Regulations for Conduct in the Library.

Violations of the Policy will result in increasing levels of action, ranging from asking the patron to leave the library for the remainder of the day, the patron’s permanent loss of all library privileges, and legal prosecution. The level of action shall be determined on a case-by-case basis and shall be at the discretion of the Library Director or his/her designee.  Anyone involved in the theft, defacement or mutilation of library materials or property will be subject to arrest and prosecution.

The following actions are prohibited on library property:

  • Selling or soliciting of any type
  •  Distributing or posting materials/literature not approved by the library
  •  Possessing or consuming alcohol or illegal drugs or being under the influence of either alcohol or drugs  
  • Smoking or other uses of tobacco 
  • Consuming food or beverages
  •  Not wearing appropriate clothing and shoes or wearing clothes unbuttoned or unzipped 
  • Bringing animals or pets of any type into the library (except guide dogs for the disabled patrons) 
  • Any loud, unreasonable and/or disturbing noises created by persons, radios, cell phones, etc.  
  • Intentionally damaging, destroying, or stealing any library property or a patron’s or employee’s property 
  • Taking library property into the restrooms 
  • Removing library material from the premises without authorization through established lending procedures 
  • Engaging in disorderly conduct, fighting, challenging to fight or using offensive language likely to provoke violence
  • Indecent exposure
  • Using obscene or abusive acts and/or language
  • Any other illegal acts or conduct in violation of federal, state, or local law, ordinance, or regulation
  • Roller blades, skateboards or other athletic equipment shall not be used in the library
  • Loitering on the library grounds.
